Projects for 2025

"If a tree falls in a forest and no one hears it, does it make a sound? If two lesbians f*ck and no one records it did it happen? Sorry let me rephrase that: if two women fall in love but none of the men write about it, did it happen?"

But it’s not only men.  Because on an island called Lesbos, Sappho is writing...

Sappho's back. And she's single. The L Word meets Ancient Greece in 6th Century BCE. Structured around Sappho's fragments, Schödinger's Lesbians is a joyful, irreverent new play about love, lesbians, and how to cope with a history that's written you out of it.

LIKE A (VESTAL) VIRGIN

Six women are chosen for priesthood, to worship the goddess Vesta. But, being so powerful comes at a price: no sex. No sex for 30 years. Fuck! (Or not).

Like A (Vestal) Virgin will be a devised piece exploring sisterhood, sex, and silence. These women have a greater discovery in store, and it starts with their bodies.

THEME-IS: SCRATCH NIGHTS

‘Theme-is’ are a series of relaxed, fun and welcoming networking event/scratch nights, showcasing work from female-identifying and non-binary creatives.

We welcome any type of work that fits within the chosen theme of the night - from spoken word to new writing to monologues to comedy - you name it, we want to see it!

We offer an informal performance space to test out new work, receive detailed audience feedback, and generally just have a fun one.

PAST EVENTS

Join us for an evening of queer friendship bracelet making (and friendship making!)

Themis Theatre is hosting a social! This will be a relaxed and open session for us to get crafty, make a friend, and have a drink together (non-alcoholic or otherwise)! We’ll have multiple tables set up with all the bits and bobs you need to make a friendship bracelet (or three).

Come for a bit or stay the whole time; bring your friends or come alone; bracelet pro or first-timer - we’d love to see you there!

19 MARCH 2025: THE GLITCH, WATERLOO

THE DISSENT

Icarus, Ariadne and Phaedra are in hell. Literally. Now they’re uniting to smash the patriarchy for a second shot at life and asking why, two thousand years later, the same questions are being asked.

In a re-imagining of three intertwined Greek myths, Icarus (now a young woman) has fallen from the sky to her death. In a trial to determine where she’ll spend eternity, Icarus is forced to examine the events which led to her flight and defend her choices. But how can she give her defence when history, the justice system and language itself is not designed for women?
